Flu season is among us and as your neighborhood health care facility, we’d like to remind you how important it is to get your yearly flu shot. The annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Getting vaccinated can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.
Don't let the flu get you down! Make an appointment today or walk right into one of our locations for your flu shot.
Our 4 locations in Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, and Mountain View are ready to vaccinate you and lend some support if you get sick.
Which vaccine do we carry?
We carry the more effective quadrivalent influenza vaccine. This vaccine protects against the 4 most common viruses expected this season.
Who should get vaccinated?
Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season. Two vaccinations are indicated for children from 6moths- 8 years IF your little one has never had 2 injections in the past.
Who should NOT get vaccinated?
- Children younger than 6 months of age
- If you have an allergy to eggs
- If you have or have had an allergy or severe reaction to the flu vaccine or any of its ingredients
- If you feel ill or have a fever
- If you have ever had Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Can I still get the flu even if I get vaccinated?
You can still get the flu for a few reasons: You contracted the flu during the period from vaccine to gaining immunity (takes about 2 weeks), your response to the vaccine was not strong enough, or you contracted one of the strains not covered by the vaccine.
How do I avoid getting the flu?
It is transmitted through respiratory droplets that land on surfaces and then eventually make it into your body through your mouth or nose. Remember to wash your hands frequently!
What should I do if I catch the flu?
If you are experiencing fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches, and fatigue, come in to one of our 4 clinics to be treated. There are antiviral medications that may help lessen your symptoms by 1-2 days if taken within 48-72 hours of catching the flu.
